Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development
2019 / Storybox
In January of 2019, the story of Tāmaki Makaurau and the waka (canoe) that sailed there, took centre stage at the Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival.

The festival featured land and water stage performances that went into the night, as well as storytelling that captures the region’s rich waka history which shaped the Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) as we know and love today.

The audience were watching from a grandstand on Captain Cook’s Wharf. Beside the barge stage was a large water screen of 30m width and 15m high. Content was projected onto the water screen during performances on stage.

I was the main illustrator on this project and did a range of designs dependent on the performance.
